Should I get a second opinion on the buyer's sewer inspection report?
A second opinion can be useful when a buyer requests expensive work or the report leaves the condition or repair scope unclear. It is not a reason to assume the original inspector is wrong. An independent review helps determine whether the findings support the requested work, so you can respond with better information.
What to consider
A repair request can contain several different issues: what was observed, how it was interpreted, and what work was proposed. A second opinion is most useful when those points are unclear or when the proposed scope is expensive enough to warrant closer review.
Ask for the original report and available footage. Independent assessment may confirm the finding, identify limitations, or clarify why a proposed remedy is being considered. It should not be used to dismiss a report simply because the conclusion is inconvenient.
Use that clearer understanding with qualified contractor proposals and your agent’s advice when responding. House Sewer does not sell repairs or decide transaction terms. Our sewer repair second opinion page explains the assessment and advisory service.
